Hedge and screen plant
The bright chartreuse hedge that gives Indian landscapes their colour block — fast, cheap, endlessly clippable and visible from a distance without any flowers at all.
Golden duranta does one thing better than anything else in the Indian palette: it delivers colour without depending on a flowering season. A clipped chartreuse band against dark shrub massing reads clearly from a moving vehicle in any month, which is why it appears on almost every median refurbishment and corporate frontage in the country.
It is also the most maintenance-hungry plant in this library, and that must be priced honestly. It grows fast, which is why it fills in quickly, and the same vigour means a hedge needs clipping four to six times a year to stay crisp. A duranta hedge on an annual-cut contract is not a hedge; it is a thicket with a yellow tinge.
Compensating for that, it is nearly free to maintain in material terms. Cuttings root readily, so gaps are infilled from the same planting, and hard renovation cuts back into old wood are tolerated without loss.

Tabebuia rosea
The tree that turns whole streets pink for three weeks in late winter — medium-sized, well-behaved and increasingly the signature avenue tree of Bengaluru and Hyderabad.
Four to six times a year for a crisp edge — every four to six weeks through monsoon and every eight weeks in cooler months. Anything less and the hedge loses its line.
Three to four plants per running metre (0.25–0.35 m centres) for a hedge that closes within one season. Wider spacing works but takes two.
The berries and leaves are mildly toxic if eaten in quantity. It is fine in general landscape use; keep clipped so it does not fruit near play areas.
